A munificent donation of Five hundred thousand rupees made to the Shri Vallabhacharya Vidya Sabha, Madras by the philanthropic Dwaraka Doss brothers, the late Shri Jumna Doss and the late Shri Amichand Doss enabled it to found the Dwaraka Doss Goverdhan Doss Vaishnav College, Madras in June 1964. The phenomenal growth of this institution prompted the Sabha to think loudly of expanding its service to education at different levels. A Telugu businessman and great philanthropist, the late Shri Kola Perumal Chetty came forward with a generous donation of four hundred thousand rupees, including a 21-ground land adjoining the College, for starting a first grade English School with modern techniques of teaching blended perfectly with Hindu ethos and culture.
The active involvement of the Sabha and the munificence of Chettigaru together triggered the starting of Kola Perumal Chetty Vaishnav School on 3 July 1972 with the blessings of His Holiness 108 Goswami Shri Brijratnalalji Maharaj. That day the school made a humble beginning by admitting students from LKG to V standard. Handsome donations periodically by Shri Kola Perumal Chetty totalled to more than a million rupees. This and the untiring efforts of the Managing body resulted in a three storey building within a year of its inception, paving the way for the steady growth of the school over the years. In fact, the school came to be styled as Kola Perumal Chetty Vaishnav Senior Secondary School in 1978 with the opening of Plus Two, affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. Spacious class rooms, good furniture, well equipped laboratories, excellent playgrounds and other amenities have made this Institution enviable and most sought after by the parents and students alike.
Realizing the difficulties of the tiny tots to reach the school, Shri Kola Perumal Chetty donated a school bus in 1974. Science and Library Block was constructed in 1977 to accommodate the laboratories, workshops and library. The top floor of the main building was built in 1979. To facilitate the smooth functioning of the school activities, an Open Air Theatre was commissioned in 1982. The office functioning in the first floor of the new administrative block built in 1984 was shifted to the ground floor in 2004 together with the Principal’s office and the Correspondent’s room. The Principal’s room on the first floor was converted to the Committee Members’ room. It was Shri Kola Perumal Chetty who was instrumental in starting a course in Computers in 1985. In 1986 a spacious canteen was added to provide hygienic snacks and drinks to appease the palate of the pupils.
In 1994-95 a new building to house the bookstall, canteen, Sanchaika Bank, NCC Room, three classrooms and the Computer lab was built. In May 2002 a lift was installed. It was inaugurated during the Tri-Decennial celebrations. A new school bus was bought in July 2002. Means of rainwater harvesting, bus and cycle sheds were built and paver blocks laid around the compound.
In 2003- 2004, the administrative office was shifted to the ground floor and new air-conditioned rooms were provided. A spacious Computer Lab and Maths Lab were built on the second floor.
In 2005, the ADC Auditorium was rebuilt with two green rooms, one classroom and an audio-visual room. The staff rooms was extended and a separate cabin for each teacher was provided. An arch with the school name was built at the main entrance. The school prayer hall was extended and air-conditioned in May 2007. It provides a perfect ambiance for daily prayer. The School gained ISO 9001-2000 Certification in April 2005. IT was upgraded to ISO 9001:2008 in April 2009. In 2007, Smart Class Programme was introduced for all classes and Plasma T. V’s were installed in all classes. The Basket Ball court was relaid and two floors were added to the Audio-Visual Block in the year 2008. A roof garden was set up on the terrace of the Computer block. In 2009 the school Library and KG Block were renovated and air conditioners were provided.
As per the CBSE instructions, the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation Scheme was implemented in the year 2010 -2011 for classes I to X to provide holistic Education. In the year 2010 the Primary classes I-IV were renovated with false ceiling and tiled flooring. New furniture was provided. Light Roofing facility opposite to the ADC auditorium was also constructed. The Centenary year celebrations (17.2.1911-17.2.2011) of our Founder Chairman Late Shri. Kola Perumal Chetty was organized in a grand manner on 17.2.2011. In the year 2011 classes V to VIII were renovated with tiled flooring, false ceiling and new set of furniture. Two air conditioners were fixed in Std: XII B (present XII A room).
The highlight of the 2011-2012 was the two day project exhibition ‘Green Nature’ with the theme- Perceive, Preserve and Protect the environment. In the year 2012 classes IX –XI , Maths Lab, VCA room and Sanskrit room were renovated with false ceiling and tiled flooring. A new EB panel Board was installed on the ground floor in the year 2013 as a safety measure for effective and proper power supply. The parapet walls along the corridors of the first floor and the second floor were fitted with new railings as an effective safety measure. To combat the problem of water stagnation during the rainy season and to provide relief, new drainage water channels were constructed with Gutters of Truss and down taking pipe facility.
The School also introduced Easy Educational Automation Software module. In the year 2013-2014 Std XII- B class room was renovated. Two air conditioners were installed each in Std XII B class room and the prayer hall. Additional rest rooms were constructed in the I floor (for girls) and in the II floor (for boys). Interactive Touch Smart Boards with Projectors were installed in classes XI & XII and the KG block to make teaching –learning process more effective and enriching. The school purchased two buses , 28 seater- Eicher & 49 seaters –Ashok Leyland to provide easy and safe transport to the young students living at a distance living at a distance from the school. Fire alarms have been installed in each floor as a safety measure.
The management has instituted scholarship for the needy and the deserving students since 2012-13. Every year 12 students receive this scholarship.
To promote and nurture Indian art and culture and also to provide more opportunities to develop their innate talents and to impress upon young minds the significance of Indian heritage, values and virtues, art and culture, the school conducts the following classes under the name of Shri Vallabh Cultural Academy.
Vocal, Dance, Guitar, Violin, Veena, Mridangam, Tabla, Flute, Yoga and the Key Board.
Students of classes V to VIII attend any one of the above disciplines after taking an aptitude test. The classes are conducted on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2.20 p.m to 3.45 p.m.
As per the CBSE guidelines, Vocational course was introduced in class IX in 2013 – 2014. Information Technology (IT) has been chosen as the subject for the vocational course
